The AUBG Experience

November 11, 2017

EasyUni Staff

Bulgaria, a country known for its rich culture and tradition, offers various attractions to locals and tourists alike. In 2015, the country has welcomed an estimated 9.4 million visitors to see enchanting mountains, inviting villages, historic monasteries and bask in the sun at the Black Sea.

However, the country is still unknown to many. “I chose Bulgaria because the Bulgarian culture is not so familiar in my country,” said My Tran. Hailing from Hanoi, Vietnam, she wanted to personally experience the things she had never heard of before.

Like My Tran, curiosity towards Bulgarian culture has brought many students to the country and they are now calling it their home. This is where the leading liberal arts university – the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) – comes into the picture. Established in 1991, AUBG caters to over a thousand of students from different parts of the world.

As a world-class institution enabling its students to experience a diverse environment through fun, varied, and comfortable surroundings, it is no wonder students – even from across the continents – choose AUBG. In fact, more than half of the AUBG students are international. So what’s the deal?

Learning from the Best

The reason is obvious. AUBG is fast becoming the reason why students are making their way to Bulgaria. Aside from providing excellent liberal arts education, the university also offers students a good environment that encourages critical thinking, engagement with the AUBG, as well as local community, creativity, and academic excellence.

The university faculty comes from top institutions worldwide and are prepared to train students to be more industry ready. “The skillful and experienced professors that have international specializations make AUBG the best school in Bulgaria,” said student Yuliy Yuliev. “They include a great deal of practice in their teachings,” he added. “The professors teach the material in a very easy-to-understand the method,” added Mustafa Ramadan, also an AUBG student.

Liberal Arts Education

What also draws students to AUBG is its liberal education style of learning. Here, students are encouraged to select two majors according to their interest. They can choose from the 11 majors available and also add one of the 18 minor fields of study. This system allows the students to accelerate learning in areas where they are truly interested and excel.

Aside from the flexibility to choose their majors and minors at the end of their sophomore year, students can also select the professors and curriculum.

Adding to that, students at AUBG also gets internationally-recognized, dually-accredited diploma, certified by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States and the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation in Bulgaria.  Further to that, there is a zero unemployment rate for AUBG graduates and most of them hold high positions in top companies worldwide.

Life on Campus

While the academic life may be demanding, life on campus is anything but boring. In fact, it is a perfect mix of work and play. “I initially wanted to study abroad, but I discovered a university in Bulgaria that combines academic life with fruitful social life,” Yuliy shared. Expect student-organized events, more than 40 clubs to meet friends, an active student government, special lecture series, campus media, as well as keen athletic life.

In addition, Bulgaria also houses diverse cultures. “The multi-cultural atmosphere at the university is awesome!” said Mustafa. “The cultural exchange is one of the benefits of studying at AUBG,” he added. “You can see people from all the corners of the world,” said My Tran.

Combining the best of Bulgaria with education parallel to none, studying at the American University in Bulgaria is an experience to cherish forever. Not only because of the vibrant student life on campus and the people you get to meet throughout your stay, but also the academic standards is beyond expected. “Every day at AUBG is very diverse,” said Yuliy. “Once you get up from bed, this is when the fun begins.”
