In its fifth iteration, Ice Age is nothing but fun and excitement – a perfect movie for the whole family this holiday season.
In Ice Age: Course Collision (Ice Age 5), Scrat (voiced by award-winning director/producer Chris Wedge) takes the audience to the outer space after his epic pursuit of – guess what – an acorn! This galactic chase launched a series of mishaps, eventually resulting in a serious threat to the planet!
Meanwhile, unaware of what is happening outside the Ice Age world, Manny (Ray Romano) is having serious separation anxiety with his daughter Peaches (Keke Palmer) – who is getting married to her fiancé Julian (Adam Devine). His wife Ellie (Queen Latifah), tries to appease the father of the bride and eventually joined her husband’s scheme to not let their only daughter go.
On the other hand, Sid (John Leguizamo) tries his best to finally meet the one, while Diego (Denis Leary) and Shira (Jennifer Lopez) tries to reconcile the idea of building a family together.
Personal issues aside, the entire gang is faced with a threat of the end of the world. Together with an old buddy, Buck (Simon Pegg), they travel to an exotic land of Geotopia to stop the collision – meeting the yogi Shangri Llama (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and an enchanting sloth named Brooke (Jesse J).
The 100-minute movie takes the audience back to the tried and tested Ice Age formula: adventure and comedy for the whole family. The characters we’ve grown to love after four films are now experiencing challenges more trying than before. “We take our family of characters further than we’ve seen them before,” says producer Lori Forte. “We have a great time seeing how far we can push the characters, their world, and the obstacles they must overcome. And we love throwing our heroes into environments they’re not yet equipped to handle,” she adds.
Coming together to stay alive, the herd embarks on a new journey wherein we see the characters evolve as individuals and as a family. Particularly with the herd’s leader, Manny who is afraid of big changes. Throughout the movie we see a scared worried father, not wanting to let his daughter go, then eventually letting his guard down and accepts what the future holds for his family. And like what they say, family grow and change through time, but the love will remain and stay true.
It’s also interesting to note the change in the visual of the movie. Moving away from its predecessors, the striking graphics and animation throughout Ice Age 5 features more detail-rich landscapes – from the lushest jungles to the colourful land of Geotopia till the movie reaches its chilly climax by the volcano.
Starring the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Adam Devine, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Max Greenfield, Jessie J, Nick Offerman, Keke Palmer, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Seann William Scott, Wanda Sykes, Jennifer Lopez, Queen Latifah, Stephanie Beatriz, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Lilly Singh, Michael Strahan, Melissa Rauch, Chris Wedge, Ice Age: Collision Course is released by 20th Century Fox Animation and a presentation of Blue Sky Studios production.
