However, sources of information are limited to consultants from education agencies or university representatives which are, more often than not, biased. There is a dire need for a social platform that can provide information for prospective students by students who have been through, or are currently going through, the university experience.

easyuni.com has recently announced the launch of UNIFRENS, a social platform which allows students to connect with each other through similar interests in colleges and universities and to help each other make unbiased and community-driven decisions about their higher education. The feature also allows for connecting with students currently enrolled who can share their experiences, good or bad, about a particular city, country, university or course.

easyuni.com is Asia’s most popular education portal; helping students make decisions about their higher education without influence from counselors and committed to equipping students with ample knowledge about higher education options. As an extension to easyuni’s existing vision of providing comprehensive and accurate information to students about colleges and universities, UNIFRENS exists as a smartly designed intuitive social platform to further the student experience in their selection process.

UNIFRENS identifies the interests of students (provided during the sign-up process) and assigns them to various groups which are matched according to those interests. For instance someone from Singapore who is going to study Business in Melbourne, Australia will then be assigned to all the relevant groups which include “People from Singapore going to Australia” or “People from Singapore going to Melbourne to study Business”.

Students can post their questions in those groups which then allows for response from the community and experts. The feature is still in its BETA stage but has gained massive traction with over 100,000 users already registered and assigned to groups. CEO & Founder of easyuni.com Edwin comments, “ UNIFRENS is something which we had been planning for a while as a feature that would compliment our family of tools already available for our students. We always knew that our users would love it as they want more community-driven information instead of promotional content from universities and study-abroad consultants. This feature will democratize the way information about specific course, country or institution is presented and this can only mean good things for our students and parents visitors - as it helps them make a more informed decision about which course, institution or country they should go to”.

UNIFRENS is expected to come out of BETA within the next few months with much more advanced features allowing students to interact with each other in multiple ways. Right now the students can only post or comment on someone’s post making basic interaction possible.
