While many might confuse CV with Resume, and some even mix up all the three and thought they are the same, they are actually different! Let me show you why and how to write each of them.
The Cover Letter should never ever be confused with CV and/or Resume. Cover Letter is clearly a LETTER, that should be written in full sentences and paragraphs regarding significant achievements and experiences which make you a perfect fit for the position. With today’s technology, people prefer sending their letters via email. So before you hit the send button, make sure your message, have these key elements to give you a better chance of getting hired.
Things to remember:
- Appropriate Salutation: Never ever write “Dear HR” or “To whom it may concern” That shows you do not care enough to know more about the company. Try to search for them, call the company, tell them you are interested in the position and want to know who you should address the application to. By doing so, you will standout among other applicants, and they will remember you.
- Interesting opening: Tell some eye-catching facts about yourself and your achievement. Do not be afraid to repeat the things in your resume or CV as most HR Managers do not have time to click, download, and open the files to understand every applicant. Do them a favor by telling a great story about yourself in the body of the email itself, and they will view you differently (in a good way).
- Less is more: K.I.S.S (keep it short & simple), it is not a 2,500 words essay. Just a few sentence to highlight your ability will be enough for the HR Manager to know. This will make them feel interested to know you better and read your resume or CV.
- End with enthusiasm: Close your letter as if you already have the interview. “I look forward to being interviewed at your earliest convenience. Thank you so much for this opportunity.”
