Curriculum
In your first year, you'll gain a general introduction to computing skills and computer security. You'll also gain technical skills - in both computer networks and computer systems - that you'll build on in later years.
You'll then develop technical skills in network security, penetration testing and ethical hacking as well as in biometrics and biometric based security systems. In your final year, you'll cover cryptography and malicious software in detail.
Practical work in your specialist modules and final year project will involve developing appropriate security software. You'll cover the CISCO networking syllabus for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching. You'll then follow the CCNA Security syllabus. You'll also have the chance to take the industry-standard EC-Council Ethical Hacker Certification.
We encourage you to enrol on our sandwich degree that includes a one-year paid placement in the computing industry. This greatly enhances our student's employability.
Applicants who require the Tier 4 visa for a full time study in the UK are not able to apply for the Sandwich degree in the first instance due to Immigration regulations.
We encourage International students on the Tier 4 visa , once enrolled, to apply for a placement. Students who are successful with finding a placement will be provided with help and advice with their visa extension application (subject to the University deadlines and Immigration requirements).
