The IEM Gold Medal Award is a distinguished honour that recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of engineering and technology. Chong's exceptional academic performance and his potential to shape the future of engineering were acknowledged by the IEM, making him a worthy recipient of this recognition.

Among Chong's academic achievements was his remarkable CGPA of 4.0, accompanied by various accolades, including the BEM Presidential Award in 2022. The IEM Gold Medal Award further reaffirms his exceptional talents and dedication to advancing the engineering industry in Malaysia.

Chong, who currently works as an engineer for Hilti IT Asia, demonstrated a strong commitment to both academic excellence and active involvement in extracurricular activities during his time at the university. His smooth transition from being an undergraduate to a competent professional is a testament to the quality of education and practical exposure provided by APU.

Expressing his gratitude at the ceremony, Chong shared, “When I first stepped into APU, I was just a lost boy who intended to do his very best. Being part of the Mechatronics Engineering programme, I have learned so much in terms of both academic skills and life skills.

“It has been an amazing opportunity to grow with APU, and it’s a great honour for me to receive this award for my academic years! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Lau Chee Yong for his guidance from my first year until my final year; he truly motivated me in many ways.”

Proud of his student's accomplishments, Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering, APU, Ir. Eur. Ing. Ts. Dr. Lau Chee Yong, commented, “Wei Lun’s achievements are a testament to the pursuit of excellence, and he serves as an inspiration to both current and future students.
