Curtin Malaysia welcomes Curtin’s rise to world’s top 250 in latest global research and reputation rankings

Miri – 8 November 2018  Curtin University has jumped into the world’s top 250 universities in the 2018-19 University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP). The University rose to the global ranking of 249, up from 272 last year, and remained ninth in Australia for the fifth year in a row, according to the latest results released last week.

Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Jim Mienczakowski welcomed Curtin’s results in the important research ranking, which measures the world’s top 2,500 universities.

He said that, as Curtin’s largest international campus and global hub in Asia, Curtin Malaysia contributes significantly to the University’s research activities and is extremely proud of this latest achievement.

Professor Mienczakowski said being named among the top 250 universities in the world is a significant achievement, echoing the comments of Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry who said it was an outstanding result that demonstrates the University’s commitment to producing a high quality and large volume of research on the world stage.

She said the University will continue to undertake important research that is making a genuine difference to local, national and global communities.

The URAP is a research-only ranking using indicators that measure the quality, quantity and impact of publications, as well as international collaboration. The annual ranking is published by the Informatics Institute at the Middle East Technical University, in Turkey.

As further testament to its research and global reputation, Curtin University has risen 30 places to equal 234th position in the world, according to the US News and World Report’s latest global rankings released this week.

The fifth annual ranking, which considers the University’s academic research performance and global reputation, also placed Curtin ninth in Australia.

Professor Mienczakowski said he is always delighted whenever Curtin enhances its performance in global rankings, and to achieve outstanding results in both the URAP and US News and World Report’s Best Global University Rankings is nothing short of spectacular.

He said the results showed Curtin’s continued growth as a truly global university. With campuses in Western Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius, the University continues to prove its place on the world stage and remains committed to this upward trajectory.

The US News and World Report’s Best Global University Rankings focus on the publication of academic research and on reputation. This year, 1,250 universities in 75 countries were evaluated.
