With a successful collaboration spanning over four decades, there was no surprise that TAR UC and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (‘ACCA’) would sign a new Commercial Relationship Agreement (‘CRA’) on 3 June 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus to further extend their partnership in providing a globally recognised accountancy education.
Ms. Jenny Gu, Vice President of ACCA was present to sign the agreement together with Assoc Prof Say Sok Kwan, Vice President of TAR UC, while Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC was there to witness the momentous occasion.
ACCA has worked together with the then TAR College since the inception of the School of Business Studies (‘SBS’) in 1971 to prepare and equip TAR College accountancy students with a globally recognised professional accountancy qualification.
Datuk Dr Tan lauded the long and successful partnership with ACCA that built a strong reputation for TAR UC’s accountancy programmes. “With TAR UC having the largest accountancy student population in the nation at close to 14,000 students, it reaffirms our strong reputation in providing professional accountancy education towards a globally recognised professional qualification.”
“As the only institution in the world to have the privilege of conducting the internally-assessed ACCA Fundamental programme, our renewed partnership with ACCA will aid us in our continuous efforts to contribute to the development of future-proof human capital,” Datuk Dr Tan added.
Jenny expressed her delight in signing the CRA with TAR UC, saying, “Our relationship helps to deepen ACCA’s engagement with accountancy profession in Malaysia and in return studying ACCA at TAR UC ensures that graduates have access to a globally recognised accountancy qualification that will help lead businesses in the 21st century.”
After the signing ceremony, Jenny presented awards to several TAR UC students who excelled in the ACCA examinations recently. Yong Hock Boon (Third Top ACCA Affiliate in Malaysia) and Liew Chie Cheng (Top in Malaysia and 3rd in the World for Paper P1 Governance, Risk and Ethics) stood out brilliantly at the ACCA March 2018 examinations and they were presented with their awards.
Also present at the ceremony were Teo Loi Pin (Top in Malaysia and 8th in the World for Paper P1 Governance, Risk, and Ethics in the ACCA December 2017 examinations) and Chiew Hua King (Top in Malaysia and 6th in the World for Paper P3 Business Analysis, ACCA September 2017 examinations). Meanwhile, Irene Lee Wan Chien, who emerged Top in Malaysia and 5th in the World for Paper P7 Advanced Audit and Assurance in the ACCA December 2017 examinations, was not present to receive her award.
“I am very impressed to see the next generation of accountants from TAR UC coming out as winners on the national and global stages. I look forward to you all becoming TAR UC graduates and members of ACCA as you continue to grow in your respective career journeys,” said Jenny.
The ceremony concluded with Datuk Dr Tan and Jenny exchanging souvenirs followed by a group photograph with everyone in attendance.
The CRA signing ceremony and award presentation was also witnessed by Mr Edward Ling, ACCA Malaysia Country Head and Ms Wong Hwa Kiong, Dean of the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (‘FAFB’).
