Launch of Student Career Development Centre

TAR UC joined an exclusive group of institutions of higher learning in Malaysia following its official launch of the Student Career Development Centre (‘SCDC’), a digital technology career centre, on 28 August 2018.

Established at the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus, the SCDC is an all-encompassing one-stop platform which enables it to build a closer relationship between students and prospective employers throughout the end-to-end process of internship and recruitment such as career matching, coaching, career talks, on-campus recruitment and interview platforms just to name a few.

Out of the eight Premier Digital Tech Universities in Malaysia, TAR UC is one of only four institutions of higher learning to have a digital technology career centre. To ensure the best service provided, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (‘MDEC’) will provide training and certification in the future to the staff manning the SCDC as this is a privilege accorded to TAR UC being a Premier Digital Tech University.

Present at the launch was Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, former President of TAR UC, who believes the SCDC will further entrench TAR UC as the institution of choice in developing future digital talents.

“The SCDC reflects our firm commitment to collaborating closely with the industries to provide a truly industry-relevant education that produces employment-ready graduates. SCDC is also our pledge to ensure our graduates meet the strictest requirements of the marketplace.”

“This launch is most opportune and momentous given TAR UC’s upcoming 50th Anniversary celebrations next year. It signifies that TAR UC is still going strong; in fact stronger as we continue to nurture leaders of tomorrow,” said Datuk Dr Tan in his speech.

The launch ceremony was attended by Dr Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan, Deputy Director General, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and Siti Norliza binti Mohd Sahar, Director of Talent, Talent & Digital Entrepreneurship Division, MDEC. About 30 industry and strategic partners of TAR UC were also present to witness the launch.

Dr Mohd Nor Azman lauded TAR UC’s contribution to the national initiative by constantly doubling efforts to produce industry-relevant digital talent to meet the dynamic needs of the nation.

“It is expected that Malaysia will need about 540,000 digital talents by the year 2020. Therefore, the digital technology career centre has the responsibility to create awareness of the demands in the industry. With the setting up of digital centre club last year where TAR UC is one of the members with other Premier Digital Tech universities, this shows a strong collaboration between the universities and industry to share information on the latest digital careers.”

“In the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, it is important that digital talents are produced in abundance as Malaysia becomes more prominent in the global arena,” said Dr Mohd Nor Azman.
