Entry Requirements

  • Master’s degree from UTAR and shows evidence of adequate related research or work experience to the satisfaction of the Senate.
  • A Master’s degree of another university or equivalent qualification from an institution as approved by the Senate and shows evidence of adequate related research or work experience to the satisfaction of the Senate; 
  • Candidates without a related Master’s degree in the field or working or research experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by UTAR.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields from UTAR with First Class Honours or with a minimum CGPA of 3.67 and show evidence of related research aptitude to the satisfaction of the Senate.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields of another university or equivalent qualification from an institution with First Class Honours or with a minimum CGPA of 3.67 as approved by the Senate and shows evidence of related research aptitude to the satisfaction of the Senate.
  • Any other qualifications equivalent to the above as approved by the Senate.

English Language Requirement:

  • IELTS : 5.0  (CEFR  Level B1) 
  • TOEFL : 410-430/ TOEFL iBT Score  40 - 45
  • Cambridge English Qualification and Tests : 154 - 159 (High B1 level in CEFR)  
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) : 47 - 50  
  • MUET Band 3.5

Curriculum

The programme comprises a structured curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with advanced research training. It includes two compulsory courses and an independent research project, enabling candidates to develop expertise in scientific inquiry and critical analysis.

  1. Research Methods in Science – Provides essential skills in scientific investigation, data analysis, and research ethics.

  2. Directed Readings in Science – Enhances the ability to critically assess scientific literature and synthesize research findings.

  3. Doctor of Philosophy Research Work:

    • Thesis (40,000–100,000 words)

    • Involves in-depth investigation, critical analysis, and the generation of new scientific insights
