The Master’s degree programmes in Communication are designed to provide a deeper and more focused understanding of theoretical aspects and issues in communication. These programmes enhance analytical thinking, critical reasoning, problem-solving, and research skills, equipping students with the expertise needed to navigate the evolving media landscape.

Designed for individuals pursuing careers as university lecturers, researchers, or media professionals, the programmes offer an in-depth exploration of mass communication. Students gain comprehensive knowledge in media organization management, communication policies, strategic planning, and the societal impact of communication.

The programmes are available in two study modes:

  1. Mixed-Mode (Master of Communication): This programme integrates theory, research, and practice to prepare students for the dynamic demands of global media industries.

  2. Research-Based (Master of Arts in Communication): This programme enables students to develop independent research in media and communication while benefiting from mentorship by experienced faculty members.

To further enhance their academic journey, students are encouraged to participate in Dissertation Writing Workshops, seminars, and guest lectures delivered by industry professionals and leading academics.

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (CGPA ≥ 2.75): Accepted without additional conditions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (CGPA 2.50 - 2.74): Subject to rigorous internal assessment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (CGPA 2.00 - 2.49) + 5 years of experience: Requires proof of at least 5 years of relevant work or research experience and is subject to internal assessment.
  • Without a related Bachelor's Degree but with relevant experience: Must complete prerequisite courses as determined by UTAR and meet CGPA requirements.

Note: "Five (5) years of relevant work or research experience" includes any professional experience after obtaining a qualification, practical training, or industrial attachment.

  • Cambridge English (B1 Level in CEFR) - 169

Curriculum

Programme Structure

Master of Communication

Coursework: 4 major courses + 3 electives = 21 credit hours

Dissertation: 10,000–12,000 words
