Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for this course are:

A minimum of 200 points with at least 140 points from two A-Levels or equivalent

GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above or Key Skills Communication and Application of Number at Level 2

Successful pass on a HNC in a relevant subject discipline

We welcome applications from mature students who have worked in a relevant industry but have not gained any formal qualifications (or recent qualifications, or qualifications at A level standard or equivalent). Each case will be considered on its merits by means of interview and where applicable a Design Portfolio.

An Access to HE Diploma full award (Pass of 60 credits - of which a minimum of 45 credits must be at level 3 including 18 at Merit or Distinction) will be accepted.

 

Language entry requirements

The University accepts the following minimum English language standards for entry to its degree courses.

You must have at least one of the following standards in English to enter a degree or diploma course:

An IELTS score of 6.0, or a TOEFL score of 550 (or 213 for the computer-based test)

Pearson PTE Academic score of 54

A pass in the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) examination

A pass in the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) examination

GCSE/GCE O Level grade C or equivalent British-based examination

For selected countries, a good pass in English in the final year of secondary school (this being the equivalent of year 13 in England and Wales), or

Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the British Council (as listed in the British Council NARIC Guide) or an equivalent body

For entry to the BA (Hons) English Language and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programmes, you will need a score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, since this is a special award which includes an international qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

For entry on to PhD programmes you will need a score of:

IELTS 7.0 or

TOEFL 650 or

IBT 115

Curriculum

In Year 1, you will learn the basic concepts of the construction process and how to produce accurate, professional 2D and 3D drawings with industry-standard Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems.

In Year 2, you will investigate the theory and applications of 3D parametric CAD and the art of producing architectural visualisations to see the impact of architectural solutions on existing settings. You will make use of industry standard tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, 3D Studio Max and advanced rendering engines.

In Year 3, you will complete a major Computer Aided Design project and enter design competitions in addition to looking at emerging technologies such as 4D construction simulations and gaining an understanding of how to set up your own business.
