The University, located near the heart of downtown Houston, was founded as a Public, co-educational, historically Black University. The campus facilities have grown from one permanent building and several temporary structures in 1947 to 45 buildings on a campus that sits on 150 acres of land.
All students who have an interest in living on campus must be registered for academic courses with the university. University provision mandate the requirement of 15 hours as an enrolled student.
